Implantology is the branch of dentistry, which occupies itself with replacing missing dental elements with dental implants, endosseous screws that mimic and replace single teeth or groups of teeth, or to give stability and comfort to removable prosthetics. Thanks to this technique the edentulous patient (without teeth) can obtain a natural smile and regain good masticatory function.<\/p>\n

The most common dental implants are titanium screws that are inserted surgically into the osseous structures of the mandibular and maxillary arches in the position of the missing tooth or teeth. The bony tissues adhere to the implant thorough a process called osseointegration which may require several months.<\/p>\n

The advantages of implants<\/h2>\n

The implant allows for the replacement of a missing tooth with a crown, obtaining an effect very similar to that achieved in a natural tooth, eliminating the need to fabricate a bridge and compromising adjacent healthy teeth. In cases where multiple adjacent teeth are missing it is useful to proceed with implants which serve as additional support for a bridge which otherwise might be at risk for fracturing or decementing due to excessive length of the bridge span or weakened abutment teeth. In other cases implants permit us to avoid removable prosthetic appliances or to enhance their stability with anchorage points, thus guaranteeing greater comfort in speaking, eating and smiling.<\/p>\n

Implantology<\/h2>\n

A dental implant<\/strong> is a small titanium screw, which replaces the root of a missing natural tooth that is placed surgically into the bone. Thanks to the biocompatibility of titanium, dental implants integrate perfectly with the bone and become a good anchorage point for the tooth to be replaced (crown).<\/p>\n

Implant therapy does not have contraindications based on age, however it is recommended that skeletal growth is completed (not before 18-20 years of age). Even patients that are very advanced in age but in good overall health can undergo, without problems, implant therapy.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
